What is an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT)

Gas is transported to all homes in the UK via a vast network of underground pipelines. The majority of these pipelines are owned and operated by National Grid and we pay National Grid to transport the gas via their pipelines to people’s homes.

However, a small percentage of homes in the UK are connected to the grid by an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT); usually this applies only to new build properties or remote villages that cannot be reached by the national grid network.

Why does it matter?

Being an IGT customer makes no difference to the gas that comes into your home but the agreements with the IGTs and the processes that we as a supplier have to follow to supply the gas are very different to National Grid and as as a small supplier we cannot currently supply customers on IGT networks.
